Five Generations of Service

The Pillalamarri/Pillamarri name carries a proud heritage that spans hundreds of years across the Telugu-speaking regions of India. Throughout history, members of the Pillalamarri family have been associated with leadership, scholarship, public service and cultural contribution.

Across different periods of history, the Pillalamarri/Pillamarri name has been connected with village leadership, community stewardship, business, temple administration, education, literature and public life. Historical records and family traditions also recognise distinguished members of the wider Pillalamarri lineage as renowned poets, scholars, ministers, spiritual leaders and community custodians, whose contributions have left a lasting mark on society.

While every branch of the family has its own unique story, they share a common thread—a commitment to serving others with integrity, wisdom and compassion.

The story presented here focuses on five generations of my own family, whose lives demonstrate how those enduring values have been carried from one generation to the next.

From village leadership in India to community service in Australia, each generation has embraced the belief that leadership is not defined by status or position, but by responsibility, humility and service to others.

This journey is not simply the story of one family.

“Every generation inherits more than a family name. It inherits a responsibility to leave the world better than it found it.”

From respected village elders and temple custodians, to community leaders, entrepreneurs, public servants and elected representatives,
these five generations reflect a continuous commitment to serving people and strengthening the communities around them.

Their journeys span different places, different professions and different eras, but they are united by one enduring principle:

Service before self

PILLALAMARRI
SUBRA RAYUDU

The story begins with Pillalamarri Subra Rayudu, a respected village elder whose leadership extended well beyond his own household.

He was recognised as:

  • Village Leader
  • Community Elder
  • Business Entrepreneur
  • Temple Head

His leadership was founded on service, fairness and bringing people together.

He believed community leadership was a responsibility to care for others.

He and his family raised five children, passing these values to the next generation.

Lakshmi Narasimha

Carrying forward his father's legacy, Pillalamarri Lakshmi Narasimha became one of the region's most respected leaders.

He served as:

  • Village Leader
  • Community Head
  • Business Entrepreneur
  • Temple Trustee
  • Musician
  • Astrologer

During a severe drought he undertook a remarkable 21-day walking pilgrimage from Kuchipudi to Suryapet carrying his violin and leading prayers.

His journey became a symbol of hope, leadership and community unity.

He and his wife raised five children while continuing their tradition of service.

Two Brothers.
Two Paths of Service.

From this generation emerged two remarkable sons.

Pillalamarri Subra continued serving the local community through public leadership.

Pillalamarri Ram Murthy joined the Indian Army, dedicating his life to serving the nation.

Although their careers differed, both believed in Service Before Self.

The next generation included:

  • Pillalamarri Poorna Prasad
  • Pillalamarri Laxman
  • Pillalamarri Bala
  • Pillalamarri Jagdish

Poorna Prasad

Pillalamarri Poorna Prasad embraced leadership while bringing it into a modern era.

His interests extended into education, technology and entrepreneurship.

He established a technology business while continuing community service.

In the early 1990s he encouraged his family to establish themselves in Australia.

Although he passed away before migrating, his vision lived on through his wife Seetha Rao and their five children.

One of those children is Sreeni Pillamarri.

Looking to the Future

Service before self

Every generation writes its own chapter.

Our family’s story is not measured by titles or achievements, but by the people whose lives we have had the privilege to serve.

Today, that responsibility continues.

As Australia continues to grow as one of the world’s great multicultural nations, I hope future generations of the Pillalamarri family will continue to embrace the same values that have guided those before us:

Integrity

Humility

Service

Faith

Leadership

Community

The places may change. The generations will change. But the commitment to serving others should never change.
